Teacher Questioning Skills:
Aim: To assist teachers to take deliberate informed action that will raise their own questioning skills.

  • Examine the ‘guess what is in the teacher’s head’ approach to classroom questioning, which pervades much of our unconscious classroom practice.
  • Examine teachers’ reasons and purposes for asking questions,
  • Raise awareness of the types of questions we can ask by introducing teachers to the Reasoning Process linked with a taxonomy of questioning.
  • Provide ongoing support in classroom practice and planning to assist teachers to develop effective classroom questioning
  • Support schools who want to carry out observations and professional assessment on teacher’s questioning, where necessary be involved in observation exercises and in supporting those who will later be doing thsi type of observation.
